As farmers with a busy livery yard, we are used to hard work. We see ourselves as custodians of this farm until our son hopefully takes over. We don’t really have a lot of time to think about our own financial matters and that’s why we’ve depended on Headley for the past 15 years or so. The choices they helped us make will see us into a very comfortable retirement and also tick the boxes for inheritance tax (relief).
A large proportion of our wealth came from the sale of the family farmhouse. We invested it in ISAs (tax free) plus investments that will help our son with his apprenticeship and a pension that will set him on an early path to saving for his own retirement. He’s the future of our farm.
Headley worked with our accountant so it was really joined up planning. My husband was recently diagnosed with an illness and gave up working. Jane at Headley showed us cashflow scenarios that accounted for care costs, should he need it sooner rather than later. It also showed us that we could actually stop working tomorrow and be alright financially, but we’re not ready for that quite yet.
It is truly a comfort to know that we’re being looked after and that means we can do what we do best. Maybe we can even start thinking about taking a holiday!
