We did it!…. and if you didn’t sponsor us before, there’s still time!
Our triathlon was completed on Saturday and we were lucky to have the perfect day for it. We survived without injury and all achieved the personal challenge that we had set ourselves.
Donna swam 13km along the Thames from Henley to Marlow, starting at 5.30am and finishing some 4 ½ hours later. This was an organised event with 800 entrants that took place a few weeks ago and Donna came 8th in her age group. It’s the longest open water swim she has ever done. Click here to view Donna’s swim.
On Saturday, the walkers and cyclists had the South Downs Way to navigate. It’s a path that we know well that has some very challenging sections, ending in Winchester. One walking group set off at 5am in Cocking and started their 12-hour hike towards Winchester in the dark. The second group started a few hours later at Butser Hill and the cyclists started at around 8am and pedalled towards the walkers on their circular route.
Our abilities range from completely novice to very experienced and ages from 22 to 56. Half had never off road cycled or walked as far as we did on Saturday before. The plan was to coordinate our finish at King Alfred statue at 5pm, and amazingly the plan worked! The cyclists came in first and Jane & Jonny hobbled in at just after 5pm, having walked the full 60km.
The Kings Arms (KA) our chosen charity met us at the end. They were delighted that we had already raised £2,500 by the time we started as that provides funding for one after school club for a whole year. We know that we can do better than that but that the events over the last 12 days have been somewhat distracting. We do hope therefore that if you haven’t sponsored us already that you will now make a donation to help support the youth charity.
It would be marvellous if we could meet our target of £5,000 before our blisters and aching limbs recover!
